How to convince my parents to let me on Facebook.. I'm 16?

I'm a 16 year old girl. I really want to be on facebook.
All my friends are on it and they always ask me to make a profile. I want to because I'd love to keep in contact with friends I don't see often.
My parents have kinda always been against it ( bullying stories they've heard etc)
I understand where they're coming from but I feel I'm mature enough to handle it.
I can't just make an account as if my parents find out they will kill me because I didn't tell them ?
How can I convince them to let me use it ?? Thanks for answering if you do

You're 16. you have the free choice to create a profile as you wish. Tell your parents you're resistant to bullying and will report any type found. Show your parents who you will add as friends, if you think you're mature enough, tell them and confront them, explicitly tell them you really want an account.

Honestly, you're 16. I hate to be the one to point this out, but if you were to create a profile and not tell them about it, how would they even find out? And they wouldn't kill you. They're probably expecting you to do this actually

Perhaps you could convince them by giving them access to your Facebook account, so they can see it's not being used inappropriately. Most people wouldn't want that arrangement, but it's the only honest solution I can think of.

I'm not sure about the Facebook's rules of creating online profile when you're under 18, but assuming it's allowed, you could simply create the profile with your email address. If your email address is private, you could also set your profile to be private, and away from the prying eyes of your parents. I don't recommend that's what you do, but it could be done.

Personal suggestion: Maybe listen to your parents on this one, rather than sucking up the hype from your friends. Facebook has become a big waste of time for most people, and there's better ways of keeping in touch with your friends than by trading your personal information on a big company's network. Once you post something dumb online (hey, we do it) it's possible that it'll be there forever.
