how do people get onto your top friends list on facebook?

The small box on the bottom right of the screen gives you the option to talk to friends, it is separated in 2 groups 'more friends' and then there's a list before that one. Why are certain people on this list? some of them i have never spoken to or even visited their profile, I don't really need a solution I'm just curious. I appreciate your answers

You get into it, by being boring.

It's the people that Facebook thinks are your closest friends, based on your interactions with them. Like if you're tagged in a lot of photos together or if you like each other's statuses a lot. It also takes into consideration the people that you have in your "close friends" feed.
Facebook basically thinks that it's smart enough to know who you are and who you're close to, but in reality it's just not.

Facebook estimates depending on your actions with them. If you liked their photos or things like that or you talked with them a lot, Facebook assumes you guys are close friends.
