It gets people back in touch with old friends and keeps people in touch when they're no longer near each other.

It provides a platform for friends to gather and discuss about what happened at school, work etc. And also and ability to keep in touch old friends, teammates, classmates. One of my friend migrated to italy when i was 10 years old and if not for facebook i wouldn't know if he's alive or not also games and apps etc. For entertainment!
It all depends on how you use it.
