Can someone track your facebook i.p through a message you sent them?

Just wondering someone pulled a stupid prank and now the girls pretty connected boyfriend is threatening to come after them. They did it through a fake facebook profile and has been told they are looking for her by using the i.p address through a message sent using facebooks private messenger. Can they really find not just the i.p but the individuals address doing this? Anyway to stop it?
Even if this person is the other side of law and a bit dodgy? Cause I was told they had done it before and found the person. I checked and their i.p was nowhere near where they lived. It really is impossible?
I know they set up the fake facebook with a fake email account and the messages they got were through facebook not the actual email provider. I keep reading the need an actual email to see their i.p and the account has been taken off facebook as well. I know they were stupid they didn't know what they were getting into. Now they are scared!

no, the only IP address they could even get would be the IP of the person's ISP, which only gives them a general location (city/state of their ISP)

there is no way to get someone's home address from their ISP's IP
