what camera should i be looking to get?

ive had a kodak share since 2005 & im ready to buy a new one.not to have something newer but cause the zoom seems to make things blurry & just cause pics dont seem as good in looking at them when brought up on computer.so,think its time for a new one,question is..what one?!

i know i want a nikon or cannon.$300.00 is about the price im willing to pay.
most pics i see on social media networks look great from that person(s)cell phone..but im wanting same thing but from a camera!!

ok,thanks in advance..hope to get some knowledge so when i go to the store i have an idea for when the sales person ask me,or tells me their knowledge

I just bought a nikon s3300 to keep in my purse. I like it. Very small, ok in low light, hd video, 16mp, vivid colors. 100.00 on sale. I also have a canon G10, but it's too heavy to keep in my purse and it was getting beat up.
