Why are people so fake?

I'm scrolling down Instagram, Facebook, and twitter, and I'm disgusted. Girls drowning in makeup and people I can tell hate each other trying for likes or whatever. people with 1500 friends on facebook who barely know 1/4 of them..Guys trying to look "sensitive" so girls will like them. People quoting lyrics that are about romance when they have had like 1 boyfriend and it was in 6th grade.

I'm actually angry that people feel the need to say things they don't mean to impress people they don't like.

But why do they do it?

Well I'm terrified of people, and yes they are fake. People like to fit in while still feeling like they're special. This is nothing new, but the only difference now is the Internets multiple social networking sites.
