My ex is lying on twitter - saying I made her bankrupt - what should I do?

Background is 6 years ago she got herself in financial difficulty - got a £60k loan to pay off all her debts - which (stupidly) I co-signed. She carried on spending and soon enough couldn't make the repayments - so she declared herself bankrupt to get out of it. Of course that meant I was liable for the full amount, I struggled on for a couple of months but then I had to declare bankruptcy as well. Needless to say we split up over this issue.

Now she is saying I ran up £76k of debt "half of which she knew nothing about" on twitter.

I know I should ignore it - but she makes me so angry - especially as she is very prone to calling in lawyers against various internet forums she is a member of for spurious reasons.

Should I ignore it? should I sue? Can i sue?

Try to ignore it. Most other people will ignore what she says.

If it's harming your reputation or your livelihood, then you can sue for libel. Your ex will have to prove that her financial problems are indeed your fault. If she doesn't prove that, you can recover damages.

print out the tweets if possible and tell her you will take her to court for libel if she doesn't stop it

I would sue her for at least half of what you borrowed to bail her out - NEVER do something like that again

Take her to court, and print out those comments where she harass you over the internet. Have all receipts of payments, print outs of the twitter comments she leaves you and anything else you might have. I can't stand people who let someone co-sign, and then later turn their backs on the nice person who co-signed for them, and don't pay crap! That's injustice and she will have to pay for being irresponsible! Good luck, and no more CO-SIGNING to anyone! If they have bad credit and they get declined there's a reason why; because they don't pay back! x( Whatever you do, don't reply to your twitter comments or voice mails if she leaves you, because anything you say will be against you. Stay quiet in tell the court date!

twitter is the electronic equivalent of the wall of a public bathroom. you do nothing.

If she is such a mess financially, you could sue but even if you do win the case I doubt you could get any money out of her.

Just take it as a lesson learned (never co-sign), and let her twitter away, no one reads those things anyway. Except for the news media, and they only read celebrities' tweets.

In the US you could sue her for slander or libel. Suing might make you feel better but it seems doubtful you would be able to collect a judgment.
