Can my contacts from FB delete me after I deactivate my account?

Yes, they can delete you from there friendlist.

you keep appearing on their friends list, without your picture there (but your name is still there)

and if they click on it, facebook just asks them if they want to remove you as a friend (most people click yes)

Yes they can still unfriend you, even if your account is locked or suspended, but they wont see your profile picture, or your profile. If they try to click your name it will say" This account has been deactivated. Only you can see Philip on your friends list. You have the option to unfriend them.
