i saw a url somewhere where the facebook url would lead to ones own page (john clicks it, it goes to johns page. Cathy clicks it, it goes to cathys page)

Its called profile link.

You can find your link under the account settings.

yes, you are right that lead in individual page,that is called username. if you are expecting same then go to setting and change your user name what ever you want. that will appear in your page.
