Why do people jump on trends, even if they're totally ridiculous?

Why do people jump on trends, even if they're totally ridiculous?
First of all I don't understand this whole facebook/twitter fad. Everyone and their mother is leaving MySpace and going to these two new things, and when I tried them out for myself I thought, wow, these s8ck. They're so..underdeveloped in a sense. Where's the background artwork, the creativity, the video files, etc. It seems like a early, a very early and primitive version on MySpace. Yet everyone's like "OMG ITS SO COOL its like the new thing, its better than myspace." Twitter too,..so archaic in a sense.

Do people have any idea what they're doing or are they just jumping on fads because it's the thing to do?

It's so mindless.

Then we have all these phone obsessions, music obsessions, etc, fashion.

everyone hypes up things that are new and that is seemingly what this sounds like. It may not be all that but it is the "IN" new thing going around at the time . If you are not into it then just let it go . But i know it can be annoying to say the least.

That's the reason, because they are fad's, something new, I dont think they are neccessarily leaving myspace it is the coolest but i think it's more one person invites and that person invites and so on and so on, I went on twitter once, and only once, so i just think it's the cause of the moment, Facebook is okay but there again it's automatic i think. It's like trying something new, it either will work or it won't, like the info commercial's on tv.

They all have different purposes. People flock to stuff when it's new then usually leave it behind. Go from one thing to the other. The point of twitter is not videos, it is to leave short messages and update people. It is also good/made with reading on phones in mind so why would it have heavy media that people couldn't access??

They are not jumping on fads they are trying them out, JUST LIKE YOU DID. Only they apparently like it as they are easily pleased, and you have more specific interests such as watching videos all day long.

I admit that I left MySpace due to stalking, but I loved it when I was there for your very reason that it allows for such beautiful artistic sharing. As to Twitter? That must be the worst I have seen to date!
For me personally there is no such thing as cool, only what I myself enjoy.

I believe twitter is like the Google of the social networking world. Simple and efficient. I personally don't have a twitter, facespace, myface, myspace whatever, never have and don't think I ever will. I do however have YouTube and Y!Answers because they are actually useful.

There is an overwhelming desire to fit in. Especially among younger people. FINALLY, I don't care. Makes life sooooo much easier.

Yeap, they are doing it because it is the thing to do...I have a name for this, and it is "sheep-ling"...

Because people are like sheep, they go where the other go, without thinking. People are manipulated by all media, they do what they are told to do. There is no self responsibility, just dependency. If you want to make people 'happy' (or get at their money) then create a space where they feel comfortable by being confirmed in what they think they are, even though this is an illusion and based on a fake identity: ones personality! This will be defended with all means and if people come together then they feel strong...
You are right, people are obsessed and they feel excited when they can go into the most silly things they can use to fill their life, - not to fall into a void or to look at themselves...
Pretty sad, but that's our reality: humankind is still at a pretty primitive state of evolution, with the possibility that they destroy themselves and their living space the planet earth. There is little chance that they wake up, but one never knows...

Wow, I just answered your other question about why people are so 'animalistic,' and you complained about people having opinions. It seems like you're highly opinionated yourself. As for MySpace, I'd admit, I used to be a member. It was a fun website because I was given the opportunity to customize my page to my liking, add friends and meet new people, and post anything I wanted, but after people kept stalking me and stealing my images and creating fake accounts to mock me, I decided to cancel my account and never return! School was more important and the love for MySpace suddenly vanished. Despite that, MySpace is useful for keeping in touch with old friends, that is, if they don't get their account banned! To answer your question, people like to have fun. Because of this, if something like a social networking site is fun, word of mouth causes other people to check it out, then they determine if they like it. At that moment, opinions vary, so they either enjoy the page like the mass majority, or they disapprove of it like you. Therefore, someone don't just 'jump into fads;' they check new releases out to see if it's any good. For instance, did you join Yahoo! Answers because 'it was the thing to do,' or did you check it out for yourself because you liked the concept of this site? As for fashion, in different environments, such as varying neighborhoods, school, and even the workplace, clothing determines 'who you are,' so fashion is a top priority. Most of us wish to look presentable, and we do so by wearing clothing that makes us look even more attractive. When something new comes out, word of mouth is born, and therefore, people check out the new clothing to determine if it's better than their previous fashion trend, or to see if it can be blended to with their current to trend to make it more presentable.
