What happened to my facebook?

The boxes along the left side of the page that organize my about, friends, and photo information have dissapeared on my facebook page. All that shows up is a small rectangular box telling me what my recent activity is. I've contacted facebook about the issue but...I don't know how responsive they are to addressing issues. Is there a way that I can manually reset the boxes?
