Who were you sending the message to?

Facebook does not charge for you to send messages to other facebook users. Do you think you may have clicked an advertisement by mistake? Or an application?

*I just tried sending a message to someone that is not on my friend list (a 'pseudo-me," an account a created but didn't "friend").

It went through fine, and I was NOT asked for money.

Facebook users are
the people that use Facebook

the sent folder in your inbox means you sent it not that it was sent to you

For those who don't realize this, Facebook is now charging $1 to send private messages to people not on your friends list.

It's possible that this message was not sent since you did not pay up. It's showing in your inbox because it was something you ATTEMPTED to send.

In the future, if you want to send messages to people not on your friends list, send that person a friend request. There's no charge for that.

you have to add the person as a friend first if you want to message them

facebook does this to prevent spammers from sending spam to everyone

You cant send message to inbox of a person who is not in your Facebook Friend list. If you know that person then send friend request.
