What Facebook virus does my friend have?

Yesterday, I was on Facebook scrolling through my news feed and stumbled across pictures my friend "posted" that were really bad. The first one wasn't (it was just the girl from Evil Dead), but the next ones were of stuff like somebody's face peeled off and being tortured. It scared the crap out of me, and I was just wondering what virus her facebook has? What kind of person would hack someone's account with that stuff, and how do I prevent it from happening to me?

Never click on those links or watch the videos. It will ask your permission to access the app and once you allow it. It starts posting all spam on your wall and starts to tag your friends. So never ever click those links.
