Subsitute for facebook?
i want to keep in touch with all my college friends but dont like facebook becasue of its work with the government and how it's becomeing sommewhat of an identification card

There are a few, but none really just like Facebook. The typical ones such as Tumblr, Twitter and such are obviously popular but if it's just to keep in touch with them, Google+ is actually pretty good

I think they are all the same. If the government want to see know what you are doing, they will see it, no matter what type of network you are using, even if it's not FB.
You can still keep in touch with your friends by Emails, Text, Ovoo, or Skype. |

There is no reason why the Government cannot read our facebook or anything else that is online in the public domain. We cannot ban anyone from doing so.
