There are millions of them. This is why you NEVER accept a Friend request from anyone you have never met in person. NO real person is going to contact you out of the blue and ask to be your friend if you don't know them, don't work with them, didn't go to school with them, etc
I get at least 2 scammers a week sending me messages saying things like "I really liked your profile and would like to get to know you better" or "I love your pictures. You have such a beautiful smile and would love to know more about you" -- these are always scams. They are never for real

And it's very easy to tell the scammers' profiles
- they have very few friends and those they have are mainly of the opposite sex. A real man would have mostly male friends, not female
- they post pictures of themselves, but are never tagged in posts or pictures posted by anyone else. A real person is normally tagged in more pictures than they have posted of themselves. I only have 15 pictures of myself that I have posted but have been tagged in more than 100 posted by my friends and family, not to mention being tagged at parties, checking into restaurants, etc.
- they don't have friends writing on their walls. A real person has friends constantly writing things like "Great to see you at John's BBQ on Saturday" or "Are you around next week" and other normal things. Scammers never have anything like this - because they don't have any real friends

Cut off contact with any person you have never met - don't ever Friend them. Not only are there romance scams, but thousands of people a year are burgled because of their Facebook statuses. If you have people you have never met as friends, they can easily find where you live because all of your personal information is on Facebook. Posting something like a check-in at a restaurant tells robbers that you aren't home for the next few hours. Posting vacation pictures shows the robbers that you aren't home for the next week or so.
