What does it mean when someone says join a private FB page but...?

...when you go to the link (facebook.com/examplepage), it just goes to your own FB page?

He keeps advertising it (even just yesterday), so I am assuming it's a real page. What am I supposed to do? Is there a magic word? WTH? lol

Also, I tried searching for it, but FB asks if I want to create it. Is there some sort of "in-group code" to figure out where a private FB site is hidden so others cannot find it? Does that happen sometimes?

I'm confused.
by the way, I only use this faux FB account for commenting on the internet, not really use it for real personal stuff. So I'm really lost. I used FB 4 years ago in the old (easier!) style when you can just type in stuff and find a person. I have no idea what's going on now.
How do I let him know? All he lists is a twitter page (I dont use twitter) and FB. How do I let him know to add me?
