Trying to create a group on Facebook but need additional help about members?

I want to create a Facebook group but I'm having a bit of trouble. I'm on the create page. The pop up came up for me to fill out (Group name, privacy settings, etc). I click "create" and get a message saying that I need to add friends first. I guess I have to do that before creating? I tried adding two people and it still wouldn't work.

How do I create the group and how do I add people?

One of the people were already on my list but for some reason, although I copied and pasted her name in the members section, it still wouldn't allow me to proceed. I had to copy and paste her name from my email notification from when she added me.

Yeah, I tried to do that to, what I really wanted was a Fan Page.

With groups, you are expected to build the fan base starting from your own friends list - you invite your own friends.

I have a semi unique name, and have only met a couple of other people with my name. I wanted to start a group for people with this name, as there seem to be subtle similarities between us all (I have facebook stalked a couple of them, lol) But I didnt necessarily want it open to the public, so I tried to do it as a group. Unfortunately, the only people I could invite were my own friends. I dont have anyone on my friends list with my name. Screw that idea. I did NOT make this into a public fan page and just abandoned the idea until I could figure out how to invite the public rather than just people on my own friends list.

What you could do is create a spam account, invite the spam account, and that should let you move forward. Spam accounts are handy to have as well, if you play any of the games. I think you still have to invite from your own friends list, but once you have the group you could also do invites by messaging people with the link.
