How important is it to you that a business be involved in Social Media (ie: Facebook, Twitter, etc)?

I am considering going to a conference about Social Media and Business and it's kinda costly so I want to see how important social media is in business and if it will be worth the money to go. Thanks in advance!!

I personally don't like dealing with businesses via social media, I don't want them to see my profile and info and friends, etc.

Business can do without social media. Social media is not essential to build brand image.
