What do you need to do when a guy didnt accept your request but has sent you a request instead?

Hello. I have recently sent a guy i like a friend request, but h didnt accept it. Instead of that he had sent me a message. I had forgotten to change my status to single, now its engaged and he asked me like; engaged? With whom?? Can anybody please tell me what it means and why he hasnt accepted it and what i need to do?

If you like him then reply and ask him why he hasn't accepted your request.
