What happens when you ignore a follower request on Instagram?

There's a private account I requested to follow a while ago, and the girl never accepted or denied me because it still says "requested". Does the request still show up for her everytime she gets a new request?

I imagine it still shows up and she might have chosen to ignore it for now. If you were rejected, it wouldn't tell you you're rejected, it would just go back to the blue follow button just like it was before. She may not have been on instagram in awhile and all the notifications buried follow requests. There are many scenarios in this case that could have happened.
