Do you think Facebook or Yahoo Answers is also spied on?
Or, not important, likely wouldn't bother?

If you think they would, what sort of thing would they look for?

Do you think they would 'tag' certain people?

What kinds if you think so?

It makes what we do here different if that's the case,
maybe even more useful in ways.

yes facebook and yahoo are monitored as all major sites are, they have automated search systems looking for keywords for illegal or imoral activity, they have a duty of care as a business to report such to the authorities. But normal everyday dealings would go unnoticed. or at least ignored, they may take a look but most times just ignore things.

Big Brother is always watching. Not worried as my life is boring and no threat to anyone.

For certain.
They watch to see just how far they can take it. They listen for the sigh of society.

Yes, it's in the news off and on all the time. A breach of privacy and freedoms often.
Sometime even money exchange for information by some has been questioned.

Again many mentions some thing here that shows it.

Sites know what religion many are, how we feel about government, our location, which party we may prefer, what we eat, our names are passed around to advertisers all by key words, even whats been in some mails has been reported.

Some sites have been closed down by certain bias and prejudices toward their view so it seems- (tagging) if they were getting to many hits, (an anti-gun law in face book was in the news not long ago) A blog on GMO also was in the news recently for being closed for comments (they said they didn't allow the children pictures holding signs of protest in one-and they own everything we put on them are in most by-laws including FB, Yahoo, and Googles as well as others) Pictures despite privacy apt have been out. These have all been in the news.
(last week a few were in news right here)

Does it make a different? -yes. It's easy to say we have nothing to hide but suppose as time like in history pass, .. that history of ours we leave is used against us? Remember Hitler used communication to his benefit. Reports of Jewish hide-outs. Could media outlet be used against religions and the people today to gather them up -sure not impossible at all. Just go to the sites and find many. Government has already made a law- sites have to turn information over to them. Why would they do this if they didn't know information that benefits them could be had through them?

Many are complaining about it but not enough> media has been used for years against us in history. We use to have "privacy and freedom laws" here to protect us from Tierney of government, but many are just allowing even with their own foolish apathy that it means nothing to them, the take over of those freedoms and privacy. And that could well be a very dangerous our own attitude not thinking what could be done by this spying

The breach follows "recent disclosures " that several consumer Internet companies turned over troves of user data to a large-scale "electronic surveillance program" run by U.S. intelligence.

The companies include Facebook, Google Inc, Microsoft Corp, Apple Inc and Yahoo Inc. (So yes they are being watched as well)

The companies, led by Facebook, successfully negotiated with the U.S. government last week to reveal the approximate number of "user information requests" that each company had received, including secret national security orders."
