Should I accept my ex friend request on facebook?

I went out with this guy for 5 months when I was 17. He was an asshole so I left him, in that same year I found my current boyfriend whom ive been with for 6 yrs now. recently I have received a friend request from my ex. I know it was over 7 years ago we last spoke, and perhaps he is a different person now and just wants to see how im doing, but I have have doughts about that because I hated him at the time I left him. What should I do? should I accept the request, or ignore?

i added and ex and when he wouldnt add me back cos he was married i cried! i just wanted to be friends!
