Facebook: If I remove someone will they find out?

As long as I have used Facebook before I have never used this action, but I wanted to know if I remove someone that I am in a relationship with (fiance) as a friend on Facebook, will it also take the relationship off of our pages too??
What I'm trying to say is, I'm listed as in a relationship with my fiance, but would that delete the relationship status off of his page, if I only delete him as a friend, but not take off the relationship status myself?
