How can one get Facebook messages from a suspended account?

I temporarily suspended (I forget the preferred word) my Facebook account; and I specifically recall checking the DO YOU STILL WISH TO RECEIVE NOTIFICATIONS box, NO. Yet I still received notifications. How is this possible? I don't think these are false notifications (say, SPAM using the Facebook name). Actually I don't find this too annoying. I'm more curious than anything. I'm fairly certain I clicked DO NOT SEND NOTIFICATIONS. What's even more curious to me is if, as FB says, one's identity is eliminated completely (in other words, will not show up in search engines) how it's even possible to send messages. I can understand someone on FB sending an email to my email address, but not to a suspended FB account!

On FB is if you're account is deactivated (mine is too) I still receive motivations, but it says you will still be notified if you're tagged in posts or photos, or invited to events, is the notifications dealing with one of those??
