Maybe his friends haven't been online and they just don't really know him. Sometimes people barely bother to wish their friends happy birthday because they are too shy. My last birthday was barely acknowledged at school AND on Facebook. Sad, isn't it?

Same thing happened to me, I received happy birthday from family and some friends but not them all. I felt no one cared, then I thought maybe they don't bother with sending happy birthday wishes and forgot about it after a few days. But then I posted a big thank you on my wall to those that did wish me happy birthday then some friends responded, but it's only facebook so I wasn't bothered in the end.
