How can I get offline on facebook?

Apparently this is a new thing on facebook that makes everyone, from every device, get online whenever this person signs on! Not only from a mobile phone! And even if you click on get offline, u'll still be online on your friend's online lists! Please help! I can't use facebook if it keeps making me appear online

If using a iPhone, go on account
Go to chat
Go to the top right with the wheel thing
Click on that and it should bring up "Turn off chat"
And thats how you turn it off and it will say your offline

If your using a desktop/laptop, once Facebook is open click the cog on the Bottom of the chat then click 'Turn Off Chat' You will now appear offline to all of your friends.
If your using a mobile device, I believe that you can't go offline unless you are not using the app. Everytime you open the app it automatically puts you as 'Online'.
If you want to use Facebook privately, use a desktop/laptop
