Reasons why facebook should be shutdown?
I'm doing a debate at school about why facebook should be shutdown. If anyone could help me with some strong points about why it SHOULD be shutdown, it would really help. Statistics or research would be great. Thanks.

Kids that are about 7 years old have a Facebook. I know my niece who is 8 has a Facebook. All she had to do was say she was older. Porn is posted on Facebook. Kids her age see it. Violence is posted on Facebook. I have seen some NASTY things posted on Facebook. NASTY "things".

When you click on something and you get sent to another page and another and another, it is a deliberate mis-direction, someone is getting paid per click. You are being herded like sheep.

Pedofiles pretend to be someone else on Facebook and then trick the child in meeting them and then abduct them.
Cyberbulling reasons Kids spending too much time on Facebook instead doing something useful. People are becoming addicted People have lost their jobs over stuff posted on Facebook People posting too much personal information on Facebook such as their addresses or the school they go to Inceases chances for student/teacher realationships |

I don't think it should be shut down. I just think it should be for people over the age of 18 and no minors should be allowed unless they are under the account of a parent. There are just too many problems when it comes to kids and Facebook. Obviously, certain kids can't handle it and parents aren't responsible enough to keep track of what kids do.
So maybe we should say "goodbye" to social media sites for children. Its no offense to kids or parents but I honestly think there is enough information out there to prove that the internet isn't safe for kids. There are bad people in the world and TOO many kids with stupid, careless parents who don't explain things to them and prepare them for a harsh realty: Not everyone is nice. When you put your personal life on the internet you give ANYONE the right to look at you. Even if you think a profile is private, you have no control over who uses someone else's account. When kids get bullied in real life that is one thing. I DON'T feel sorry for kids who are bullied on a stupid website that they have a CHOICE to visit. A lot of kids can't handle the responsibility of that choice and a lot of parents don't control their kids. Facebook should be for grownups! Telling the world your location, showing photos of yourself and putting personal details about your life online is a risk. When parents let their kids use public internet sites without monitoring or filtering them, that child can be exposed to anything and that is dangerous. Just like you wouldn't let your kid play in traffic, it is really stupid to let your kid go on a site where perverts, bullies from their school or people who hate them can see what they are up to, OR hack the account! If people don't start using some common sense, Facebook might HAVE to shut down! |
