It did have some small effect as far as keeping people informed at the start. But as the internet was shut down most of the time it's real impact was minimal.

Social media is one of the most powerful tool to deliver news but because of the sequence of events that are happening in Middle east. People don't know where to focus their attention towards, especially in Libya, Saudi Arabia, as well as the tragic event in Japan.
