Someone using my email address for facebook?

Some creep has used my email address for opening a facebook account. But it would seem that my email account was not hacked....probably that person could not activate the account. But I have tried to report it to facebook...nothing seems to work. Should I deactivate my email account?

all you have to do is go to facebook, click forgot password, enter your email

then they will send a password reset link to your email

select a new password (not the same one you use for your email account)

then log into that facebook account with your new password, and deactivate it or delete it
