Is what this guy did on my Facebook page, illegal?
My friend and I run a weight loss group page on Facebook. She made me admin so that I could add people during the day (she's in the U.S, I'm in the UK). Over 3,000 people have joined.

When I was updating my cover pics today, I noticed someone had shared one of my cover pics. It wasn't of me, just a pic a friend had sent me which I liked so put it as that (unicorns). I hadn't a clue who this person was, so I messaged him privately asking him who the hell he was and to please ask permission before "sharing" my cover pics.

It turns out he was in our group, so we banned him from there. Then I found before I had a chance to block him, he had done the same with two other pics.

I have been on Facebook for nearly 7 years and never encountered this issue. My profile is completely set to private, I am just angry he's somehow managed to access my cover pics.

Is this illegal? He didn't have my permission. What if I had a child in my cover pic? Would this also make it illegal? I warned my friends with kids to check their privacy settings as it makes me feel sick people go around doing this kind of thing.

No it's not illegal far from it. If you don't want him to share your cover photo then set it to private and if he's your friend on Facebook (I'm guessing you meant your personal Facebook) then he's allowed to see it and allowed to share it. If its the page you have why shouldn't he share it? Why get arsy about it? It promotes your page and it would look weird if he shared a cover photo with a kid in it that he has no connection to by not illegal and he might of just likes your cover photo.

I dont think its illegal, there is something you can do that might help.Get 50 people to report his facebook profile and facebook will close his facebook account and delete all of his pictures for good.

seems like he can access your cover pics cause sometimes cover pics stay public even when your settings are set to private ..so check your account with a duplicate ID and see if you can access your cover pics without adding your original ID ..if you can then just go through your privacy settings again

No of course it's not illegal!
If the photo wasn't of you then there's no reason why he can't share it, however if it WAS of you, then that's a different story but it still wouldn't be illegal, perhaps just creepy and perverse, especially if you don't know him.
Just stop worrying yourself about it, he hasn't done anything wrong, it's not the end of the world.

It might be illegal but wait. What if the guy shared your cover pic thought that the pic was nice..... So he might have shared it. And also if he would have shared a child's pic, he's intention might be that the child in the pic is very cute?

But anyways, he did share something without your permission and you blocked him. And even though if you tell anyone, they might not take it seriously and what you've done is right.

But sharing some one's pic has many reasons. Like the pic has some moral, good meaning or the pic is beautiful ( may be nature's pic or a sweet child or a baby ).

So since you've blocked him, it's better not to extend it. Or he might take some serious step like you are threatening him or something like that.

If your cover pics are not your own, or you bought them from a source, then anyone has access to them. Even if the picture is slightly different than yours, because companies remake best sellers, they change a little color or add more things to an existing image. Places like shutterstock, istock, iphoto and many other places once they get a hold of something that is popular, its out there.

If the member shared your information without your permission its because somewhere on your site, something was not set correctly. Hackers can get into your facebook by the same methods they use to access your email. Spoofing the site log in, getting your information and then running mad with all your information.

The best way to prevent this is to change your password every 30-45 days without fail. Never let your guard down and always report suspicious activity!

Good Luck!

Your cover pictures are public. You can not alter the setting so be careful what pictures you use!
It certainly isn't illegal.
