Can a Facebook member receive an email from Gmail?

I want to reconnect with an old friend.
When I sent an email to a FB member, Gmail said it was a permanent failure.
Her privacy settings don't allow non friends to send msgs; so will my email be in her "Other" box on FB??

I suppose that you have a Facebook account, if you have then search your friend there by name or email id and send her a friend request with a personal message on Facebook. And sending email's sometimes won't work because facebook only require Email-ID once during registration and once during password is lost. So just by the plain old Email way it won't work sometimes.

And the Email which you sent had not been received by your recipient and will not also because of many problems, like his/her Email ID is not functional, their server error ! etc ...
