Is it illegal to be pretend to be someone on facebook?

My friend and I knew each other for 6 years but I hate him now. Don't ask me why. I just looked at my facebook and clicked the friend request. I looked at his name and don't know him but I have weird feeling I suspected my friend is pretending to be someone on facebook? Or am i paranoid or something?

Yes it's illegal and if the person is really pretending to be someone else, if they are found out they could be in a lot of trouble but you can't just assume they are pretending to be someone else you need proof.
