What is needed from a hosting provider for my site?

I am currently building a social media site. What are the things i would need from a hosting provider? I know i was told i would need high bandwidth to withstand the traffic once it has gotten to that degree. What are other things i should be looking out for? Thank you

The thing about social networks is they don't necessarily (outside of a CDN) need a lot of storage space -- they thing they need is bandwidth. The only thing that would be able to properly meet your needs, is the cloud.

Honestly, no offence, but someone who doesn't know at least that won't be able to create any form of successful social media platform.
