I hacked someones facebook account and apparently they have got in touch with the police, will anything happen?

Especially now, as you can no longer deny it. Publicly admitting it on a site with close ties to Facebook, monitored by every Internet agency, and which stores all your details for years is likely to finish you off. You do realise you could get up to 20 years in prison for that.

Yes, it is highly illegal, unless you have happened to re-route/block your ip address while you were hacking. If your 'hacking' is just getting their password and going on their facebook, you could face fines or possible jail sentence, depending on what you put on there.
