how do I have facebook only allow messages from friends, and not from fan pages or other people that arent my friends of friends?

Go to your FB page & in the upper right hand corner, you'll see: Name & Photo/Find friends/Home/Padlock icon. Click on the padlock & a box will drop down, showing your options. The options you select, will allow certain people to "Message" you. (ex: Friends but not Friends of Friends)

You can also click on the "Cogged Wheel Icon" to the right of the Padlock. You can edit your choices of who to allow to message you, etc.
