Do you see a green dot when somone is on Facebook mobile or just the phone icon?

My gf has the icon next her name on messages that says "active ".its been saying active for the entire night (so like 8 hours now) I've heard it keeps you logged in.But a green dot has been next to her name throughout the hours also. Was she really on all that time? or is there something wrong with the app.I was bored and went off and on fb so this is how I know.

Sometimes it will be showing like that. My friend also had this problem. she opened Facebook in messenger app.
