My question is about the Messenger AAP by facebook.?

I was chatting w friend on messenger. while we tex each other my daughters profile pics appeared on the screen. but it appeared n disappeared sporadicly for a good 1hr then it disappeared. I asked my daughter later who she was chatting with n she said no one, that her ph was on n she said wen she realized it she turned it off. I dont think she was completely honest w me. My thought was, bcause her profile pic was on screen n then off screen she was responding to person shes chatting with. On when she respond and off when she not responding. Can someome help me understand how messenger works so i have clearer umderdtsnding how it works?
