Does facebook automatically send friend requests or add friends without you knowing?
Okay so I was looking at my news feed when a guy that I knew wasn't my friend on facebook before showed up. I looked in my fiends list and saw that he was my friend but I don't remember sending a friend request or accepting one. How did we become friends? Did facebook automatically make us friends?

Probably not, if you go on their profile and click on "see friendship" it should tell you when you guys became friends on facebook. It may be somebody you added and they just changed their name on facebook or they may have added you and you don't remember.

no for become a friends you have to send or recieve a friend request. If you poke each other you can see profile updates,posts etc.. Even you are not friend
