Has the internet given us too much freedom of speech?
An arrest on a man has been made on allegations of rape and murder of a Melbourne woman, Jill Meagher.

Social media sites have been busy.

With people asking for the accused to be publicly hung and that's not the worst of it. Not only is this immature behavior but it could also endanger the presumption of innocence and can also jeopardise a trial.

Has the legal system not accommodated for the cyber world?

Law had already given us freedom of expression. With the arrival of internet, every Tom, Dick and Harry can broadcast his ideas. Sometimes, the language used is pathetic. I have seen many pages making fun of holocaust. We know how some people are making fun of other's religious beliefs. Everyone has the right to express himself. Bad guys do this in a bad way. Their abusive language becomes a source of pain for others. Such bad guys are available in every society and every area of the world. For these guys, Internet has become an easy tool to emotionally torture others.

No. Mr. Jobs invented the internet in the 1960's so
people could have freedom of speech, because people
were getting arrested for protesting in the streets.

Not chatter on the net. Not popular opinion. Not public demonstrations.
The only things that really matter are the testimony of witnesses, and the evidence.

If the judiciary system is clearly defined and the people involved in the proceedings do their jobs, nothing outside of it would be able to influence the outcome of the trial.

philosophically speaking everyone is entitled to ones opinion - thus the internet is easy access to many to state their thoughts, for or against the individual.
