Facebook privacy question (really quick!!)?

I want to change my relationship status but because of having dodgy parents, I want to hide it from them and anyone who might let them know. Is there a way I can have only a small group of people that I have specifically chosen to see it? The specific people setting indicates for those you do and those you don't. If I just put the people I WANT to see it in the box does that mean all my other friends can't see the status or do I have to put the rest in the box which says hide?

when about to click post click on the settings button > adaptation and add people you want to hide from at ' don't publish at ' or whatever. i don't use face book on english but i think you got what i mean
