How do I stop it from doing this? Its invading my privacy. I have searched the settings but cant figure it out
but many others post on facebook and it doesn't say their location...

You can't. You agreed to the terms when you signed up for Facebook, so there is no privacy invasion. Your only recourse is to stop using Facebook.

Click on the box where you can write a status update. When you click on it, one of the buttons on the bottom should expand. The one that expanded is the checking in button, and it should show your location. To get rid of it, hover your mouse over it, and click the little X that appears. This should get rid of the location when you make a status update.
