I didn't mean following a post. I meant if you like a post of someone who is not a friend or who you are not following, can that automatically subscribe you to their profile, or follow with the new fb vocabulary. And vice versa, can it unsubsrcibe if you have not liked or commented for some time. i am asking because i liked someone,s post and i had not realized i was a follower, and then i wasn't, so i am trying to figure out if that CAN happen or someone was messing with my profile.

automatic !! not possible -- how the hell will facebook / mark zukkerberg know you want to follow a post -- without knowing you like it or not!!!??
