Is it more likely someone accidently hasn't followed me back on instagram or purpose-full?

so me and my bff had the biggest crush on this kid whose about 5 years older than us and long story short, my best friend and him have been talking and although im SOO SO jealous im happy for her. Lately he's been kind of distant so idk if he's using her but anyways I have a public instagram account ( anyone can see all my pics) and the kid she's talking to, john has a private account. I met him for the first time the other day so I didn't think it would be weird to follow him on istagram...he accepted my request but didn't follow me back! im SO mad haha I mean I don't use my instagram a lot so I only have like 10 pics but
do u think it was an accident he didn't follow me back?
There not anything serious what so ever...its been one official date and they have hung out like twice and there already seems to be "issues" I was just wondering if it was more a mistake or purpose full that he didn't follow me back
Also, long story short he basically told me I was pretty and asked why I didn't have a bf if I wanted one so its not that im a ugly girl haha ( I am 19 and he is 28 tho..)

I doubt it was an accident d: I don't see what the big issue is if someone didn't follow you back he is most likely not interested.
