I want to sign up for Facebook but I don't want to share my contacts.?

Some actual, real friends are suggesting I sign up for Facebook but I understand it will immediately import my contacts as Facebook "Friends". I would rather choose my own "Friends". How can I avoid Facebook importing my contacts?

There should be an option in the settings.
On my Facebook app as soon as I log in it gives me options about importing contacts, I select no so they're not imported.
