how to use twitter? confused?

im new to twitter, how do i get people to follow me/notice me? and what are these "#" symbols for? can someone walk me through how this works?

Hash tags (#) are things just to tag things in there. Just things that are trending. Follow people to get them to follow you back. And just say cool things I guess lol post cool pictures to; and funny ones

some people think of twitter as a site just for facebook status. you post your feelings, whatever your doing, or even eating. the # are things that are trending so if you look up # on twitter, there are millions of tweets about people with the same #. and the only way to get people to follow you is to just put it out there; tell your friends, put it up on fb, etc.

Hashtags

# symbols are Hashtags, they are a very popular social media phenomenon, most of every social network uses them. If you put a hashtag in one of your tweets, it will add it to a list of other tweets that have that same hashtag.

Example: "Omg I got these #awesome new #videogames", "I love this brand new game console. #videogames #gaming #gamers #videogameconsole"

Getting Followers:

If you want lots of followers, don't use poor grammar and type hashtags all in lowercase, it looks better that way. Also, you should tweet about things people like, like funny jokes or even pictures. You could even post fan tweets about things you like.

The four categories:

Home - Where all of the tweets from the people you follow appear
Connect - View interactions and mentions from your tweets
Discover - See popular tweets
Me - Your tweets, not much else

How to tweet:

Go to your "Home" category and there is a box that says "Compose new Tweet...", click in the box and type in your tweet followed by a press of the return/enter key.

@ mentions:

@ mentions are ways to mention people in your tweets. If you want to mention (person) in one of your tweets, type @(person's twitter name)

Example: "I just played bowling with @(someone) today! #bowling"


Tweet examples:

"Awesome, my friend @(somebody) gave me a new #videogame today!"
