ENGLISH EXAM! Don't get me started on social media? (i want opinions of my introduction)?

Hey, here's my the start to my introduction...can you please rate it out of 10, and from this introduction which style of writing do you think i should use? (formal, humorous, serious, chatty etc)

''If Facebook were a country, it would now be the 6th most populous in the world.''

Is social media taking over your life? The recent statement highlights the dramatic effect that social networking sites have had in our society and the impact they have had on social interaction.



it's tiny so far but I don't know what style to write in.. also, how big does an introduction need to be? Should I write paragraphs from least important to most, or should I just write them how they are linked together best and not worry about whether the paragraphs are important or not?

First, I wouldn't start with a quote. That should go a couple of sentences in.

Secondly, there is no set number of sentences to a paragraph. That said, I suggest at least 5 sentences per paragraph. Topic sentence, three supporting facts, and a concluding sentence.

In regards to the order of the information... In your introduction, the information needs to be written in the order in which you will be discussing it in your paper. The first thing you mention will be discussed in your first body paragraph. The second thing you mention will be discussed in your second body paragraph, etc. I suggest you come up with THREE main points to discuss. This will give you a 5-paragraph essay.

As for the style of writing... I would keep it light, but definitely don't use humor in excess. This is not a super serious topic, so a formal essay would be awkward.

I don't know, something about it just doesn't catch my attention. Here's an introductions you could take on board;

"Social media addicts everywhere were mortified when hackers hit Twitter and Facebook, causing delays on both sites. The attack not only delayed our scheduled superpoking, it illustrated just how dependent we’ve become on online interaction. In case you’re too busy tweeting to notice, here are some signs you might be addicted to social media;"
