What A level subject should I take to become a nurse?
So basically I'm doing my AS now and I've chosen; English retake (got a d at foundation, and I'm now able to do the higher tier for it), Psychology, Sociology and media studies. I thought I would enjoy Psychology the most, but this subject really messes with my mind and makes me not think on my own and thinks I'm finding out makes me scared such as penis envy (like wow). So I'm thinking of dropping it tomorrow. I can't do Maths or any science subject as I got a C in all of those. Which A level subjects should I chose to become a nurse? Because now all the science subject are not open for me. Oh and I've also done Health and Social Care as GCSE and got one Merit and one Distinction.

Help me out please.

See a counselor at your school. Generally, to get into nursing school you need to take courses like chemistry, biology, anatomy and physiology. I myself applied to get into nursing school but ended up going in a different direction.

Anyway, you need specific answers not general guidelines. There are also several nursing degrees available from 2 year degrees up to doctorate programs. Your best bet is to see a guidance counselor as soon as possible so that he/she can discuss specific programs and the specific requirements for that program.

English is a good choice, Sociology is good, media is irrelevant but Psychology is the best out of your A-Level choices. However with that being said to do nursing it's best if you were to take biology as there is a lot of biology involved, chemistry and maths are not needed. I suggest you take either BTEC Health and Social Care with another A-Level and this will be counted by many universities or do A-Level Health & Social, and just because you done it in your GCSEs doesn't mean you can't do it in your A-Levels and Health & Social is a good subject to take if you want to become a nurse. Good luck

Minimum entry requirements for nursing vary between each university but the lowest requirements are C in Maths, English and Science at GCSE. You’d be a very weak candidate if you don’t have Biology A-level since at least one science is strongly preferred among A-level subjects. As a result I suspect you’ll be quite limited with your university choices. Another question you might want to ask yourself: if you only achieved a C in your science subjects, do you think you’ll be able to cope with a nursing course?

As for the subjects you have chosen, English is fine, media studies is irrelevant and generally not sought after at all so I highly recommend you swap it with another subject. While you could draw some connections between nursing, psychology and sociology, the two subjects are quite similar to each other so I’d change one of them. Look at the entry requirement on university websites and email them for their opinion.
