Can I teach other subjects with a Maters at Teaching in Social Studies in NYC?
I wanted take my Masters in Elementary Education to teach K-8 but missing two required classes to start the program. I am thinking Social Studies would be a better/easier path to teaching here in NYC.

If I do get a MAT in Social Studies degree, can I teach other subjects or must it be Social Studies?

Also is the Social Studies teachers in NY needed or is the job market over-saturated and jobs are hard to come by?

You need to improve your writing skills to teach anything! "I wanted TO take my masters, but I AM missing two required classes."

Schools are under pressure to have all teachers be "highly qualified", which means having degrees in the subject they teach. So they are cutting back on the practice of having 1 teacher teach 2 or 3 subjects.

Also, social studies is not one of the areas of big demand. You could look at the human resources part of the NY system website to see if they are advertising any jobs in social studies.
