how do i get rid of someone from 'people you may know' on facbook?

i'm new to facebook. when i go onto my homepage a list of people come up and it says 'people you may know'. there is one person who is often at the top because we have so many mutual friends. but i don't want her to be on there. i looked it up and it says there should be a little cross inside their box to click to delete that person but there isn't. i've tried different browsers so nothing to do with that. any help? thanks.

Usually the "x" or "v" is at the top right corner, you should hover your mouse over there.
