Social websites are a community and it is important to participate in the community. Do not pitch your products, especially one-on-one. You can market by sharing knowledge and present it in a way to provide added value that everyone in the community will find interesting. You should be up front, transparent and honest, too. Don't lie, don't be sneaky because it will be discovered fast. Tell people what you are about and what you are up to. Remember, you are hanging out with friends, sharing ideas, sharing concepts, adding value to everyone in the community.
